Jane Humphreys joined the Badminton Umpires Association of England (BUAofE) in 1988 rising rapidly through the grades to International level. By 1996 Jane had become a Badminton World Federation (BWF) Accredited Umpire which brought with it Badminton Europe Certification. She reached the highest level, BWF Certificated Umpire in 2005.
During her career Jane has regularly been selected to officiate at the highest levels of world badminton. She has officiated at the English National Championships 7 times, 10 international matches, 2 European Championships, the European University Championships, London Grand Prix Gold and World Junior Championships. Jane has travelled the world to umpire at 3 Commonwealth Games, 2 World Team Championships and 6 World Individual Championships. She has been invited to the BWF Superseries finals, an Olympic test event and officiated at the London 2012 Olympic Games. Probably the most impressive record is the 17 All England Championships that Jane has attended, officiating in finals on 14 occasions.
Jane has also found time to become qualified as a Regional Assessor, National Assessor and Initial Training Course Tutor, passing on her vast experience to others. In addition Jane was Honorary Secretary of the BUAofE for 8 years from 2006 to 2014, a time consuming role requiring a raft of skills. Latterly she has taken a seat on the Badminton Board at Badminton England.
Jane has achieved all this whilst bringing up her two children and working full time. A lifetime achievement in every sense.
